Weather Emerges as Biggest Challenge Ahead of Amarnath Yatra 2026; Seven Automatic Stations Installed for Real-Time Monitoring
Weather has emerged as the biggest challenge ahead of the Amarnath Yatra 2026, leading authorities to install seven automatic weather stations and establish dedicated monitoring control rooms. Joint rescue teams, real-time weather updates, and SMS alerts have been deployed as all preparations for the pilgrimage beginning on July 3 are declared complete.
The continuous monitoring system will enable the administration to take immediate decisions in the event of heavy rainfall or landslides. Special weather monitoring control rooms have also been established in Srinagar to closely track changing conditions throughout the pilgrimage.
Joint rescue teams comprising the Mountain Rescue Team, Police, State Disaster Response Force, and Central Reserve Police Force have been deployed to respond swiftly to any emergency during the pilgrimage. Registered pilgrims will also receive weather updates and travel alerts through SMS notifications to help them stay informed about changing conditions.
After performing the first ceremonial prayer, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha stated that all preparations for the Amarnath Yatra, scheduled to begin on July 3, have been completed. The enhanced weather surveillance and emergency response arrangements are expected to play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and smooth conduct of the annual pilgrimage despite challenging weather conditions.
